Netflix will stream a new anime series based on the Akuma-kun manga globally in Fall 2023.
The manga was first published in the mid-1960s and has previously been adapted into a live-action series in the 60s and an anime series by Toei Animation in the late 80s. Netflix’s exclusive distribution deal was confirmed by Matan-web.jp and Anime News Network.
The new anime series is reportedly one of four major projects planned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Shigeru Mizuki’s birth, with a movie set to premiere in Japanese theaters in the Fall. Yūko Mita and Toshio Furukawa are returning to voice in the new series, and director Junichi Sato is also returning from the previous series.
