Disney+ released a teaser clip revealing the premiere date for the highly-anticipated series American Born Chinese. The clip also introduces the roles of Everything Everywhere All At Once stars Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan (Jonathan Ke Quan) in the series. It premieres on the streaming service on Wednesday, May 24.
The series is an adaptation of Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel of the same name. It tells the tale of Jin Wang, a typical teenager balancing his family life with his high school social life. Jin unknowingly becomes involved in a conflict between Chinese mythological gods when he meets a new foreign student on the first day of the school year. Alongside Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, the series also stars Ben Wang, two-time International Emmy Award nominee Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu, former Taekwondo champion Jimmy Liu and Sydney Taylor. Also, Academy(R) Award nominee Stephanie Hsu, who acts as Joy/Jobu Tupaki in Everything Everywhere All At Once, is a guest star.
Emmy(R) Award-winning writer/producer Kelvin Yu serves as executive producer and showrunner for American Born Chinese. In addition to Melvin Mar and Jake Kasdan, Erin O’Malley, Asher Goldstein, and Gene Luen Yang, Director Destin Daniel Cretton also serves as executive producer.
