Showtime is gearing up for the debut of “Fellow Travelers,” a limited series featuring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey. The show will first arrive on Paramount+ with the Showtime plan on October 27, followed by its linear premiere on Showtime on October 29 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. International releases are also scheduled, hitting Paramount+ on October 27 in Canada and October 28 in the UK, Australia, and more.
The cast includes Jelani Alladin, Allison Williams, and Noah J. Ricketts. Conceived by Oscar-nominated writer Ron Nyswaner and inspired by Thomas Mallon’s novel, “Fellow Travelers” intertwines romance and political intrigue. The story revolves around Hawkins Fuller (Bomer), a charismatic political player, and Tim Laughlin (Bailey), an idealistic young man. Their love story unfolds amidst the backdrop of McCarthy-era Washington, a period marred by McCarthyism’s persecution of “subversives and sexual deviants.”
As the tale spans four decades, the lives of five central characters – Hawkins, Tim, Marcus, Lucy, and Frankie – intersect during pivotal historical events. From the Vietnam War protests to the disco era and the AIDS crisis, they navigate challenges in both their world and themselves.
The series is helmed by executive producers Bomer, Nyswaner, Robbie Rogers, and Dee Johnson. Daniel Minahan, responsible for the first two episodes, also lends his expertise. “Fellow Travelers” is a collaborative effort between Fremantle and Showtime, promising a captivating blend of romance, history, and personal struggles.
