Netflix has unveiled a teaser and premiere date of August 16 for the apocalyptic fantasy series, “The Chosen One.” Based on the American Jesus comic trilogy by Mark Millar and Peter Gross, the show centers around Jodie, a 12-year-old boy who discovers he possesses Jesus-like powers. While Evangelical and Yaquí leaders urge him to use his abilities to save humanity, Jodie’s primary concerns are impressing his crush and standing up to bullies. As Jodie grapples with his destiny and uncovers his true identity, everything takes an unexpected turn. The series stars Bobby Luhnow, Dianna Agron, Lilith Amelie Siordia Mejia, Juan Fernando González Anguamea, Jorge Javier Arballo Osornio, and Alberto Pérez-Jácome Kenna. Netflix has relocated the story to Mexico, a decision aimed at infusing the mythological elements with authenticity and intensifying the sense of impending apocalypse. The show’s poster was previously shared by Netflix in March.
