Disney’s live-action reinterpretation of their Oscar(R)-winning animated musical classic “The Little Mermaid,” which premiered in cinemas in May and grossed over $542 million globally, is set to debut on Disney+ on September 6, 2023.
Subscribers of Disney+ will have access to special bonus content, including a performance of the song “Impossible Child” by Oscar(R) winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”) as King Triton, with music by multiple Academy Awards (R) winner Alan Menken (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin”) and lyrics by three-time Tony Award(R) winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,’ “In the Heights”). Additional features include “Passing the Dinglehopper” and “Under the Sea – Song Breakdown.”
“The Little Mermaid” narrates the cherished tale of Ariel, a spirited young mermaid with an adventurous spirit. The youngest daughter of King Triton and a rebellious spirit, Ariel yearns to explore the world beyond the sea. During a surface visit, she falls for Prince Eric. Despite mermaids being forbidden from interacting with humans, Ariel follows her heart. She makes a pact with the malevolent sea witch, Ursula, which grants her a chance at life on land but endangers her life and her father’s rule.
