Netflix has unveiled the latest teaser trailer for its upcoming series “Tour de France: Unchained,” and we now have the official release date: June 8. While we previously saw a slightly different teaser trailer and learned of its June release last week, we now have the series’ title.
The first season, consisting of eight episodes, will showcase seven teams, including Jonas Vingegaard’s Jumbo-Visma team, as they participate in the 2022 Tour de France.
The teaser trailer, running for one minute and 10 seconds, offers viewers a generous amount of race footage and behind-the-scenes clips. Its June release will align with the Critérium du Dauphiné.
Fans are eagerly hoping that “Unchained” can become the cycling equivalent of “Drive to Survive,” a popular series that has followed Formula 1 drivers across five seasons since 2018. Interestingly, “Unchained” is produced by the same team responsible for “Drive to Survive.”
Following Tadej Pogačar’s crash at Liège-Bastogne-Liège on Sunday, there are doubts about his fitness for the 2023 Tour de France. However, viewers will have the opportunity to relive Pogačar’s battle with eventual winner Vingegaard during the 2022 edition. It should be noted that Pogačar’s UAE team Emirates declined to be featured in “Unchained.”
Excitingly, there are plans for a second season of the series!
While eagerly awaiting the June 8 release, you can get excited by watching the aforementioned trailer. However, it’s unfortunate that there is currently no Tour de France Netflix series dedicated to women’s cycling.
