Chloë Grace Moretz and Riz Ahmed will finally make their debut as the characters from the graphic novel “Nimona” in the upcoming Netflix adaptation. This highly anticipated film, based on ND Stevenson’s popular queer graphic novel from 2015, was initially canceled by Walt Disney Co. due to concerns over a same-sex kiss scene. However, Netflix acquired the rights in April 2022 and joined forces with Annapurna Pictures to bring the project to the streaming platform. Production resumed last year with DNEG Animation at the helm.
According to the official synopsis, the Netflix film follows the story of Ballister Boldheart (played by Riz Ahmed), a knight in a futuristic medieval world who is wrongly accused of a crime. His only hope for proving his innocence lies with Nimona (portrayed by Chloë Grace Moretz), a mischievous teenager with shape-shifting abilities. Ironically, Ballister has been trained to eliminate creatures like Nimona. However, with the entire kingdom against him, Nimona becomes Ballister’s reluctant yet indispensable sidekick. As the boundaries between heroes, villains, and monsters blur, the duo embarks on a mission to cause chaos and havoc, with Ballister aiming to clear his name and Nimona simply reveling in the chaos they create.
