On Monday, Peacock unveiled a teaser for the original movie Shooting Stars, which is set to premiere on June 2nd on their streaming platform. The film is based on a book written by Buzz Bissinger and LeBron James and depicts the story of James’ high school basketball team in 2000.
In the movie, James and his actual teammates are featured discussing their high school games in a basketball gym. The film stars newcomer Marquis “Mookie” Cook as James and Dermot Mulroney as the team’s new coach.
Together, they work to mold James and his friends Lil Dru, Willie McGee, and Sian Cotton into a team with fifth teammate Romeo Travis. The team eventually becomes the #1 ranked high school basketball team in the country before James moves on to his Olympic and NBA careers.
The Shooting Stars adaptation is directed by Chris Robinson and written by Frank E. Flowers, Tony Rettenmaier, and Juel Taylor. Rettenmaier and Taylor also have story credits for James’ recent movies such as Space Jam: A New Legacy. Besides his acting career, James is also producing several other movies and a Disney+ series called The Crossover.
