How do I get in touch?
I’m just watching your show, re. Pikes!
I had an elderly Irish pal – dead now 16 years.
He lived around the head of a lough, just in the South of Ireland.
He regularly told me a story of when he was a lad, of 2 fishermen from the “North” who would come to fish for Pike most weekends. They wouldn’t go home unless they had 2 monsters each!
By monster he meant the fish would be carried over the shoulder and the tail would be dragging along the floor! That’s 6ft minimum.
A great story from an old Irish man . They love story telling.
A few years after he had died, I was visiting the lough. I had a terrible thick head from a night of reminiscing, so I went to the lough to “recover “ . I sat on the shore watching a father and son fishing.
After 15 minutes I could see the rod bending. Father landed a big fish.
The pair were obviously impressed by this catch, and so was I.
I was 50 yards away.
The pair decided to weigh their fish. They used a scale hanging from a pole. Father was holding the pole over head height and the lad couldn’t extend his arms high enough to raise the fish tail from the ground!
There are still monster Pike in those Irish waters.
