Netflix unveiled the official trailer for their new political thriller series starring Gabriel Basso, The Night Agent. It is an adaptation of the bestselling novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk. It premieres on Thursday, March 23.
The Night Agent centers on a low-level FBI agent who spends his evenings monitoring a phone line for covert spies in the basement of the White House. It never rings, but eventually it does, starting a series of events that expose a conspiracy that extends to the White House.
Alongside Basso, the cast includes Luciane Buchanan, Oscar nominee Hong Chau, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Eve Harlow, Enrique Murciano, Phoenix Raei, and D.B. Woodside. Shawn Ryan serves as showrunner and executive producer of the 10-part series. He executive produces via his MiddKid Productions.
About The Night Agent TV Show
While monitoring an emergency line, a vigilant FBI agent answers a call that plunges him into a deadly conspiracy involving a mole at the White House.
The titular agent is Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), whom Ryan describes as “the least important person working in a very important place.” Well, that’s until a call from terrified civilian Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) — a tech CEO whose aunt and uncle are assassinated — sends the two running for their lives.
But don’t expect any James Bond superspy action. “Peter doesn’t exist in the novel as some kind of unbeatable killing machine superhero. He’s an FBI agent, so he has some training, but he’s not Jason Bourne. He’s not a trained assassin,” says Ryan. “He’s very much an underdog in the middle of all this. He’s someone who, when he’s in a fight, those bruises stick around. He’s not just miraculously recovered immediately afterwards.”
